Meandarra residents will be able to visit passed loved ones in a peaceful setting thanks to upgrades to the cemetery funded through the Western Downs Regional Council’s 2018/19 Budget.

Council Spokesperson for Parks, Open Spaces and Cemeteries Councillor Carolyn Tillman said creating a beautiful, peaceful space for residents to pay their respects to passed family was important.

“It’s a part of our community that is very dear to people’s hearts and as a Council we take pride in maintaining our cemeteries as places people can sit and reflect about memories they shared with loved ones,” she said.

“We want to make our grounds as special as can be for our residents and visiting relatives so that they can leave their family or friends knowing that they are well cared for in their final resting place.

“That’s why this Budget we’re doing a few minor works to Meandarra Cemetery as well as providing more shade and reflection areas in the Tara Cemetery.”

The Budget which was adopted by Council this month allocates $12,500 for a new fence and vehicle access gates to the Meandarra Cemetery and a further $14,000 for stormwater and drainage assessment.

Council has allocated a further $55,000 for additional shade, reflection areas and landscaping at the Tara Cemetery which will also include improvements to the roads.
