Australia Day Awards nominations open until December

5 May 2015

If you know an inspirational local, community group, or organisation who has gone ‘above and beyond’ and significantly contributed to our local communities, then now’s the time for you to nominate them for the 2016 Australia Day Awards.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Ray Brown said the Australia Day Awards are an opportunity for us to recognise the outstanding contributions by residents and our dedicated community groups whose achievements would otherwise go unnoticed.

“Our region is home to a lot of selfless and dedicated people, groups and organisations and this is one way we can recognise their exceptional achievements and contributions,” he said.

“Nominations for the 2016 Australia Day Awards are open until Tuesday 1 December, and residents can download a nomination form from Council’s website or pick one up at any Council Customer Service Centre.

“So, if you know someone, or an organisation, group or event, that has gone that extra mile and significantly contributed to our local communities, then now is the time to submit your nomination. Don’t leave it too late to have these people recognised and awarded an Australia Day honour.”

Nominations are called in the following local categories:

  • Citizen of the Year Award
  • Young Citizen of the Year Award
  • Community Event and Project of the Year Award
  • Junior Cultural Award
  • Junior Sports Award
  • Senior Cultural Award
  • Senior Sports Award
  • Sports Administrator/Coach/Official Award

Nominations close 5pm Tuesday 1 December. All winners of local awards will be considered for a regional award in that category.

Nominations forms are available at Council Customer Service Centres and can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.wdrc.qld.gov.au/australia-day-2016.
