UPDATE - Temporary Closures for Maintenance - Water Park, Chinchilla Botanic Parkland

13 June 2022 - Update: Please be advised that, due to cold weather conditions, the closure period for the Water Park has been extended from today, 13 June, until 24th June 2022. The Water Park will then reopen for two weeks from Saturday 25th June - Sunday 10th July 2022 before closing again for annual maintenance works.

Council wishes that advise that the water park facilities at the Chinchilla Botanic Parkland will be closed on the following dates for maintenance, weather permitting:

  • 9th July 2022
  • 1st to 15th August 2022

Expressions of Interest Requested - Dalby Aerodrome - Lease B

Expressions of Interest are requested for the lease of the area of land referred to as Lease B at the Dalby Aerodrome.

Lease B, as indicated on the plans here, comprises an area of land measuring 160m2. It is an unimproved site without water or electricity.

Please note the infrastructure currently on the parcel of land does not form part of the new agreement and may be removed prior to a new agreement being entered into.

The new lease will be for a term up to 10 years. Additional option periods are not available.

Interested parties should provide a written submission outlining their intentions of use for Lease B. The submission should also indicate what the yearly fee payable to Western Downs Regional Council will be.

Submissions are to be supplied via email to matthew.prain@wdrc.qld.gov.au, and are due 5pm on 5 July, 2022.

Fireworks Display - Jandowae Showgrounds - 9 June 2022

Please be advised that Xplosive Entertainment will be conducting a fireworks display as part of the Jandowae Timbertown Festival entertainment.

The fireworks display will take place at the Jandowae Showgrounds at 7pm on Saturday 11th June 2022 for a duration of approximately 10 minutes.

Western Downs Regional Council has decided to sell the land described below because overdue rates have remained unpaid.

This is a summary of a notice of intention to sell land issued pursuant to section 140 of the Local Government Regulation 2012.

Pursuant to s. 133 Local Government Regulation 2012 - Interest has been calculated on overdue rates and charges from the day rates and charges became overdue at 8.03% per annum compounding daily until 16 April 2022.

Until such time as the rates and charges including interest has been paid, interest will continue to accrue and be calculated at 8.03% per annum compounding daily to 30 June 2022.  From 1 July 2022, interest on overdue rates and charges will be calculated at 8.17% per annum compounding daily. This rate is the sum of the Reserve Bank of Australia's published March bank yield rate plus 8%.

Airbase Operations Training - 1 June 2022

Please be advised that Council has received notification from the Rural Fire Service that they will be conducting aerial fire-fighting certification training at the Dalby Aerodrome on Saturday 4 June 2022, weather permitting.

The training events will take place between the following times:

  • 9:00am - 11:00am: Helicopter performing marshalling, ground loading and short flights in and around the aerodrome
  • 1:00pm - 4:00pm: Fixed wing aircraft (crop duster) performing short rotations, simulated filling and marshalling on the ground and water-drops parallel with the runway

Temporary Closure - Jandowae Cultural Centre - Wednesday 18 May 2022

Please be advised that the Jandowae Community & Cultural Centre will be closed for maintenance on Monday 23rd May and Tuesday 24th May.

All services housed within the Cultural Centre, including the WDRC Customer Service Centre and Library will be unavailable to the public during this time. The centre will reopen on Wednesday 25th May.

Road Works - Macalister Bell Road, Macalister, Talibot Street Carpark, Warra, Sandalwood Avenue South, Dalby, Robinson's Road and Albert Street, Jandowae - Wednesday 18 May 2022

Please be advised that Council will be undertaking roadworks in the following locations for the stated periods, weather permitting:

  • Macalister Bell Road, Macalister - Road reconstruction - approximately 8-10 weeks, with an estimated completion date in late August 2022. The road may be reduced to single-lane during this time and traffic lights will be in use.
  • Talibot Street carpark, Warra - Gravel resheeting - approximately 2 weeks, with an estimated completion date in late May 2022. The carpark will be closed to the public for the duration of the works. Toilet amenities will remain accessible, and some areas of the park will be made available for parking during this period.
  • Sandalwood Avenue South, Dalby - Road Upgrades to bitumen - approximately 2-3 weeks, with an estimated completion date in June 2022. The road will be closed to traffic for the duration of the works, with local access only.
  • Robinson's Road and Albert Street, Jandowae - Road reconstruction and upgrades - approximately 4-6 weeks, with an estimated completion date in late-June 2022. These roads will be closed to traffic for the duration of the works, with local access only.

Temporary water outage - Chinchilla - 28 April 2022

Council wishes to advise that due to a water main break, water supply has been impacted in Wambo Street and Villiers Street in Chinchilla. Services are likely to be impacted for approximately six hours as repairs are completed.

Defence Aircraft Formation Flyover - 21 April 2022

Please be advised that Council has received notification from the Swartz Barracks, Oakey, of planned helicopter formation flyovers in preparation for Anzac Day.

The planned route for the aircraft will take them over the townships of Dalby, Jandowae, Kaimkillenbun, Macalister and Warra between the hours of 1:30pm - 2:30pm on Thursday 21 April 2022.

A second aircraft flyover is scheduled for the same route between 8:30am and 9:30am on Monday 25 April 2022 as part of Anzac Day commemorations.

Chinchilla Weir Campground - OPEN - 20 April 2022

Council wishes to advise that Chinchilla Weir Campground has now been reopened to the public.

The site amenities, including toilet blocks, have been inspected and reopened however repairs to electrical boxes are ongoing. Tradespersons will continue to be present at the campgrounds while the final post-flood inspections and repairs are being completed.

Update - Chinchilla Weir Recreational Access - 14 April 2022

Council has worked to reopen access to the Chinchilla Weir recreation facility after flooding damaged the road.

The area will be accessible for day use and water recreation only. The campgrounds, amenities, and playground area all remain closed due to flood damage.

Amenities Maintenance Works - Anderson Park, Dalby - 14 April 2022

Please be advised that the previously cancelled maintenance works on the toilet facilities in Anderson Park, Dalby have been rescheduled and will now be taking place from 19 April 2022 to 22 April 2022, weather permitting.

Road Works - Moreton Street, Dalby - 13 April 2022

UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the estimated completion date for these works have been extended to May 2022.

Please be advised that Council will be undertaking road upgrades (kerbing and channelling) on Moreton Street, Dalby between Nicholson and Condamine Streets from late April 2022 to late-June 2022, weather permitting.

Works will take place between 6:30am and 3:00pm (Mon-Fri), with access to Moreton Street restricted to local traffic only. Seek alternative routes when possible.

Amenities Refurbishment Works - Morgan Place, Miles - 13 April 2022

Changes to Waste Facility Operating Hours - Public Holidays - 13 April 2022

Council would like to advise that all supervised WasteFacilities, except the Winfields Road Waste Facility at Jandowae,will be closed on Good Friday (15April) and ANZAC Day (25 April).

All Facilities will have standard operating hours on Easter Monday (18 April) and Labour Day (2 May).

Garbage and RecyclingCollection services will operate as usual over the upcoming public holidays.

Community service advisory - Warra water supply - 12 April 2022

Council wishes to advise the community of some small impacts to Warra's water supply following a mains break overnight.
While this breakage has been rectified, residents in the local area may experience some discolouration in their water. This water is entirely safe to drink and is only expected to occur for a short period of time.

Condamine River, Condamine 
The Condamine River at Condamine is rising and is anticipated to peak overnight Saturday or into Sunday. This peak could lead to road closures in the town, and residents are urged to be prepared.

Loudoun Bridge, Moonie Highway
Loudoun Bridge remains closed. Water is slowly receding, and we are awaiting an inspection to confirm the bridge is able to be reopened safely to all traffic.
 Pending a structural assessment, we anticipate the bridge will be able to be reopened within the next 24 hours
Chinchilla Tara Road, Chinchilla 
Chinchilla Tara Road at Chinchilla Weir remains closed. An accurate day for reopening is not available at this stage, and we will notify the community when the situation changes.

Sewer Testing - Dalby Tennis Courts - 31 March, 2022

Please be advised that Council will be conducting sewer line tests using smoke in the vicinity of the Dalby Tennis Courts on Wednesday 6th April 2022.

Nearby residences ma­y observe smoke in their properties during the testing period. Residents of properties likely to be affected will be notified directly via fliers delivered to mailboxes.

Post - Flood Event Clean Up Support - 29 March 2022

Due to the Dalby flood event being classed as a "major" flood event, Council has enacted plans to support residents cleaning up their flood-impacted properties.

From Wednesday 30 March through to Sunday 3 April, Dalby residents can dispose of flood debris free of charge* at the Dalby Waste and Recycling Centre (*excludes demolition materials such as concrete).

If you are physically unable to remove and dispose of your own flood debris, please consider asking the help of your neighbours and friends or register with Council via 1300 COUNCIL (268 624) and our Customer Service Team will manage your request for support.

Some standard weekly rubbish collection services have also been impacted this week, and residents are asked to leave their bins out for our garbage collection service.  Bins will be emptied as soon as they are able to access the impacted areas again.

SES can assist residents with house washouts, reinstating furniture and yard tidy support.  For this assistance please phone 132 500.

We ask our community to be patient and mindful that our Council work crews are limited due to our ongoing management of the flooding situation and impacts to resourcing due to COVID-19.

Council wishes to advise that the rates notices for the period 1 January 2022 to 30 June 2022 will be issued from Friday 25 March 2022.

There are several payment options available to residents to pay their rates including Council's eServices secure online platform, credit card, post Billpay, BPay, BPay View, Direct Debit, by mail, or in person at one of Council's Customer Service Centres.

Council also offers flexible payment plans that assist ratepayers to manage outstanding rates.

Western Downs Mosquito Control Program - Beginning 8 March 2022

Western Downs Regional Council advises that Council Contractors will be commencing Mosquito Control Spraying (Fogging) at several sites across the region.

Mosquito spraying will begin at the following locations on the following dates:

Miles - Tuesday 8 March, 2022

Chinchilla (except weir) - Wednesday 9 March, 2022

Dalby - Wednesday 9 March, 2022

Wandoan - By Saturday 12 March, 2022 (exact day tbc)

Jandowae - Monday 14 March, 2022

Tara - Wednesday 16 March, 2022

Chinchilla Water Main Replacement - from 9 March 2022

Council wishes to advise of an upcoming project to upgrade water mains located in the Chinchilla town area.

The project will upgrade the water main system in the Chinchilla CBD area which will address ongoing issues relating to mains breakages and repairs.

In order to complete the project, intermittent water outages will be required throughout the project period (March to June 2022), and Council will be directly notifying impacted homes and businesses in advance of these periods.

Traffic management and detours will also be in place and Council will be conducting works in a way that minimises impacts on residences and businesses as much as possible.

Works will commence from Wednesday 9 March and will involve works in the following areas:

  • First Avenue (Bell to Middle Street) -  approximately 9th of March to 1st of April
  • Middle Street (Colamba to Zanoni Streets) -  approximately 28th of March to 5th of May
  • Theatre Street (Bell to Middle Streets) - approximately 4th of April to 11th of May
  • Heeney Street (Bell to Middle Streets) - approximately 5th of May to 20th of June
  • Heeney / Middle Street intersection - approximately 19th of May to 2nd of June

The entire project is expected to be completed in late June/ early July weather permitting.

Footpath Construction - Henderson Road, Wandoan - 7 March 2022

Please be advised that Council will be undertaking footpath construction works in front of the Wandoan WDRC Customer Service Centre on Henderson Street from Royds Street to Lions Park, linking Lions Park to the existing footpath network on Royd's Street.

Works are scheduled to commence from early March 2022 with completion expected late April, weather permitting, and will take place between 6:30 am and 5pm (Mon - Fri).

Solar Panel Installation - Dalby Corporate Office - from 6 March 2022

As part of our commitment to sustainability and a cleaner, greener community, Council will soon be installing solar panels over the Dalby Corporate Office Public Car Park.

This initiative will benefit the community with reduced operating costs.

A small number of trees will need to be removed as part of the project and this will take place from Sunday 6 March 2022. Access to the car park will also be limited when the solar panels are being installed, and Council will update the community ahead of works beginning.

EARLIER - Council wishes to advise that Chinchilla Tara Road at Chinchilla Weir is likely to be closed today due to floodwaters.
It is possible this closure will be in place for the next couple of days and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this time.
Please keep well away from flood waters, adhere to the road signage, and always drive to the conditions.

Road Works - Gil Weir Access Road, Miles and Intersection at Jimbour Station Road and Bunya Highway, Pirrinuan - Monday 28 February 2022

Please be advised that Council will be undertaking roadworks in the following locations for the stated periods, weather permitting:

  • Gil Weir Access Road from Leichhardt Highway to the Weir Camping Area, Miles - Road reconstruction - approximately 3-4 weeks commencing 28 February 2022. The road will be closed for the duration of the works, with local access only. UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the estimated completion date for these works have been extended to June 2022.
  • Intersection of Jimbour Station Road and Bunya Highway, Pirrinuan - Road widening and reconstruction - approximately 3-4 weeks commencing 7 March 2022. The intersection will be open to single-lane traffic only. UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the estimated completion date for these works have been extended to May 2022.

Please be advised that Council will be undertaking road upgrade works in the following locations for the stated periods, weather permitting:

Works Commenced:

  • Glenern Road, Glenmorgan - Road reconstruction and widening - approximately 10-12 weeks
  • Halliford Road, Ducklo - approximately 10 weeks
  • Dulacca South Road, Dulacca - approximately 1 week

Works Commencing Soon:

  • Glasson Street, Chinchilla - Road verge upgrade - approximately 4 weeks, commencing early March 2022. UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the estimated completion date for these works have been extended to May 2022.
  • Bowen, Foster & Kennedy Streets, Condamine - Road upgrade to bitumen, commencing mid-late April 2022 with an estimated completion date of mid-June.

Works will take place between 6.30am and 3pm (Mon-Fri). The affected roads may be down to single lane and have traffic lights. Seek alternative routes where necessary.

Temporary Partial Closure of Tara Lagoon Parkland Campgrounds. - Monday 7 February 2022

Council advises that on Monday 7 February 2022, a portion of camping facilities at Tara Lagoon Parklands will be closed to the public to allow construction work. Campers are asked to vacate the campsite on Sunday 6 February.

Council advises that the 07/2021 approved animal inspection program will commence Monday 16 August 2021.
