21st Century makeover for Dalby’s Knowles Pavilion

Western Downs residents will be able to enjoy events, expos and forums in the revamped Knowles Pavilion from September.

It’s all hands on deck at the Dalby Knowles Pavilion with Western Downs Regional Council making progress on a $1.9 million upgrade that will transform the much-loved hall into a multi-use events venue by September 2018.

This year Council will officially unveil the revamped pavilion committing the additional $1 million needed in the handing down of their 2018/19 Budget delivering on last year’s promise to develop a dedicated Civic Centre for Dalby.

Works on upgrading the pavilion are already in full swing with contractors on site since May removing the outdated kitchen, roller doors and flooring to make way for a fresh new look facility.

Council Spokesperson for Facilities Councillor Ray Brown said bringing the Knowles Pavilion into the 21st century will mean bringing more diverse events not just to Dalby but to the whole region.

“The Knowles Pavilion is a beautiful space and has been a fixture of our community in Dalby since the late 1970s — I know I’ve been to my fair share of school formals and Dalby Shows in the hall over the years,” he said.

“Creating a modern and adaptive facility with air conditioning and integrated audio visual, lighting and sound is all about making sure our community continues to have a venue for those great local events.

“Our community has been missing out on the benefits of having a modern facility that can entertain large scale events like industry forums, expos and performing arts.

“The revamped Pavilion will mean a better facility for our community and will create more opportunities to attract bigger and better events to the region offering a credible alternative, outside of Toowoomba or even Brisbane, to host special events.”

Managing Direct of Martin Building Design Arthur Martin said it’s been a real privilege to be able to contribute to enhancing the Knowles Pavilion.

“We did the original plans for the refurbishment of the building back in 2010 when Council did the extension for all the existing amenities, function room and veranda. So, it’s been great to come back this year and see our new drawings executed for the upgrade,” he said.

“To completely makeover the venue and to see it change from the original show building to the new Civic Centre has been great.

“It’s been good working alongside Council on the project and we can’t wait to see the finished project when it’s completed towards the end of September.”

The Dalby Knowles Pavilion upgrade is a joint initiative of Western Downs Regional Council and the Queensland Government through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
