Western Downs Libraries over the moon for National Simultaneous Storytime

23 May 2017

National Simultaneous Storytime is now in its 17th year, and Western Downs Libraries are hosting a morning of fun activities to celebrate at the Dalby Library from 11am on Wednesday 24 May.

  • Dalby Library will be hosting a public event with activities for children, a face painter, plus a special guest appearance from the Cow that tripped over the moon;
  • Parents, schools, kindergartens and childcare centres are all welcome to bring children to the library for the morning;
  • National Simultaneous Storytime aims to encourage young Australians to read and enjoy books;
  • Every year a picture book, by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously across the country;
  • This year Western Downs Libraries in partnership with local schools, playgroups and early childhood centres will share The Cow Tripped Over the Moon by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood with children across the region.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said National Simultaneous Storytime is a popular annual event for both parents and children at the Western Downs Libraries.

“Council are really excited to be partnering with our local schools and early childhood centres across the region to provide opportunities for parents, grandparents and carers to get involved in reading to their children,” she said.

“National Simultaneous Storytime is a wonderful occasion for families to come together and join in on one of the events being held at our local libraries, and experience how much fun shared reading can be.

“These events are also a great opportunity to speak to our friendly library staff about the regular Storytime activities and other fun interactive events held across our library branches.

“So, be sure to check the Libraries’ website and Facebook Page for more information, and come along to a National Simultaneous Storytime event near you.”

National Simultaneous Storytime will take place across the region at 11am Wednesday 24 May 2017. Contact your local branch, visit the Libraries website or our Facebook page to find out more information.
