Western Downs Libraries has partnered with local schools and early childhood centres across the region for National Simultaneous Storytime from Monday 23 May.

Hats of all shapes and sizes are set to take over Western Downs Libraries when National Simultaneous Storytime, now in its 16th year, kicks-off across the region from Monday 23 May.

  • National Simultaneous Storytime aims to encourage young Australians to read and enjoy books;
  • Every year a picture book, by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously across the country;
  • This year Western Downs Libraries in partnership with local schools, playgroups and early childhood centres will share I Got this Hat by Jol and Kate Temple with children across the region;
  • Councillors Ian Rasmussen, Peter Saxelby, and Andrew Smith will be appearing as guest storytellers at several Western Downs Libraries branches.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said National Simultaneous Storytime is a popular annual event for both parents and children at the Western Downs Libraries.

“Council are really excited to be partnering with our local schools and early childhood centres across the region to provide opportunities for parents, grandparents and carers to get involved in reading to their children,” she said.

“National Simultaneous Storytime is a wonderful occasion for families to come together and join in on one of the events being held at our local libraries, and experience how much fun shared reading can be.

“These events are also a great opportunity to speak to our friendly library staff about the regular storytime activities and other fun interactive events held across our library branches.

“So, be sure to check the Libraries website for more information and come along to a National Simultaneous Storytime event near you.”
