 Council LP Gas Service

Council's LPG is supplied to your home from large cylinders (usually two - three 45kg capacity cylinders).

These cylinders are filled where they stand by an Origin delivery truck.

If you run out of gas between refills please contact Council's Engineering Department on (07) 4669 9036 to arrange an exchange cylinder.

Council maintains and tests your house-connected cylinders and replaces them every 10 years. However, you still should be aware for any signs of failure, damage or leaks.

If you have any concerns ring Council's Emergency or After Hours number, (07) 4672 1170.

Currently Council is unable to take on any new LPG customers.

If you are not already a Council customer you can purchase LPG cylinders through a number of local retailers.

 Recreational LPG Cylinders

LPG cylinders used for recreational purposes (barbecue, camping) require particular care. These cylinders usually contain nine kilograms of LPG and can be refilled or exchanged at most service stations.

All cylinders must have a valid 10-year stamp to be refilled. Gas refilling stations are obliged to check the date of every cylinder to be refilled. If the cylinder is not "in test" then it should not be filled.

Keep cylinders secure during transport, and don't carry them in the passenger compartment. Use and store your cylinder in a well-ventilated area, and store away from excess heat and possible sources of ignition.

For more information contact Council's gas service officer on 0409 055 427 or the Department of Mines and Energy.
