connected thanks to a series of free, fun and interactive technology training sessions being run by Western Downs Libraries from now until July, through the State-wide Tech Savvy Seniors Queensland initiative.

  • Seniors interested in taking the first step to becoming tech savvy can join one of many small group training sessions at their local library;
  • The training sessions are designed to be fun, hands-on and assist seniors with ‘everyday’ online tasks;
  • Western Downs Libraries has partnered with the Queensland Government and Telstra to give our senior residents the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to use technology.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said with the support of our local library staff participants will master the basics of computer and internet use.

“With businesses, not-for-profit groups, healthcare services, family and friends embracing computers, smart phones and tablets, our senior residents who might not have the confidence or the digital literacy skills to use a computer or access the internet often get left in the dark when it comes to getting connected online,” she said.

“The Tech Savvy Seniors training sessions are designed to make it easy for you to safely and confidently get connected and learn at your own pace in a fun and supportive environment.

“You’ll be amazed how quickly you can learn to access all the important information you need such as online banking, email, as well as things that you’re interested in like staying connected with family and friends on Facebook.

“So, if you want help with gaining the skills and the confidence to use technology I encourage you to contact Western Downs Libraries on 1300 COUNCIL to book your place.”

The Tech Savvy Seniors training sessions are free, and are suitable for seniors with no previous computer experience or with limited digital literacy skills.
