Local shows, not-for-profit organisations and sporting clubs across the region are set to deliver a number of outstanding events with help from Round 2 of Western Downs Regional Council’s Local Events and Sponsorship Program which has seen over $20,400 injected into our communities.

  • Council’s Local Events and Sponsorship Program helps support our communities and dedicated not-for-profit organisations deliver significant events to enrich and benefit the Western Downs;
  • This round has seen funding allocated to 15 community groups across the region for local shows, Race Meets, charity events, and sporting championships;
  • Applications for Round 3 close 5pm, Tuesday 3 May for projects commencing mid-July 2016.

Council’s General Manager for Community and Liveability Jodie Taylor said through the Local Events and Sponsorship Program Council aims to support, celebrate, develop and engage our communities and visiting public.

“This round of funding has provided a diverse range of community groups, associations and clubs with a boost so they can deliver and develop events and programs to their full potential, providing lasting benefits to our region,” she said.

“The Local Events and Sponsorship Program helps our towns celebrate the spirit of our region, as well as build and create opportunities to share and showcase the unique characteristics of our communities.

“With Council’s support, many events like the Moonie Yabbie Races, local shows, Queensland State sporting championships and charity bike rides, have been able to develop and grow as well as provide awards and competitions for event goers and participants thanks to financial assistance through the Program.

“I strongly encourage our residents and visiting public to keep an eye out for some of these spectacular events hosted by our local community organisations.”
