Our region’s seniors are set to Rock n Roll at Seniors Week activities held across the region from Monday 15 August.

Rock and Roll, Australiana and spring time will be lighting up our region when residents young and old come together to celebrate the valuable contributions of our senior citizens when Western Downs Regional Council’s Seniors Week activities get underway from Monday 15 August.

  • Seniors Week events will be happening across our region in Chinchilla, Dalby, Jandowae, Miles, Tara and Wandoan from Monday 15 to Friday 19 August;
  • Our older residents, their friends, family and the community will be treated to themed morning teas, entertainment, and fun activities throughout the week-long celebration;
  • This year Council have partnered with Queensland Ballet to bring our seniors a number of specially designed workshops to help them get active, connect and enjoy the beauty of dance together;
  • Any one is welcome and invited to join a Seniors Week event to help celebrate our senior citizens, visit our event page or call 1300 COUNCIL for more information on Council’s regional Seniors Week events.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Council is encouraging residents young-at-heart and young-of-age to join in at one of the many Seniors Weeks events across the region.

“This week-long celebration is a great opportunity for residents to celebrate the valuable contributions our older residents make through their participation in volunteer work, sport, recreation and the arts in our local communities,” she said.

“Whether it’s catching up with friends over our Rock ‘n’ Roll themed morning tea, spending time with the grandkids or enjoying the entertainment on offer, however you chose to celebrate Seniors Week there is plenty to do at our special events across the region.

“We’re particularly excited to be partnering with Queensland Ballet this year to bring our seniors four specially designed classes held in Chinchilla on Friday 19 August to help them get active and socialise with friends.

“Our senior residents continue to make our region a great place to live, so I look forward to seeing our community come together to recognise and celebrate their contributions to our communities.”
