  • Between the Lines will feature artworks from 24 of our talented regional artists, with Dr Kyle Jenkins, Senior Lecturer (Painting) at the University of Southern Queensland, as this year’s curator;
  • The 2016 Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition will officially open at the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery at Dogwood Crossing, Miles on Saturday 10 September, RSVP your attendance by Wednesday 7 September on 07 4628 5330 or dogwood.crossing@wdrc.qld.gov.au.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Between the Lines is a fantastic showcase of the talents and skills of our region’s local artists.

“Now in its third year, the Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition is a wonderful example of how our cultural community groups can come together to highlight and raise the profile of our local artists,” she said.

“With our artists taking inspiration from a number of well-known Nursery Rhymes, Australian poetry, pop songs, and even the ever-reliable Shakespeare, visitors to Between the Lines are sure to find familiar connections to the many pieces selected for the exhibition.

“We have some great prizes up for grabs, thanks to our generous sponsors Foodworks Miles, Australia Pacific LNG, and Sandy Pottinger, and for the first time this year we’ll have a ‘Vollies’ Award with our dedicated gallery volunteers voting for their favourite piece.

“From the official opening until the exhibition closes on Tuesday 25 October, those attending the exhibition will have their chance to place a vote for the People’s Choice Award.”

Cr Maguire said that Dogwood Crossing, Miles is exceptionally proud to be hosting this premier event in the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery.

“The hosting Gallery rotates every year, with the inaugural exhibition hosted in Dalby, and Chinchilla hosting the exhibition last year, and now it’s Dogwood Crossing, Miles’ honour to host this showcase of exceptional artworks of our region’s artists this year,” she said.

“I’d like to praise the Exhibition Organising Committee on all their efforts throughout the year to stage this exhibition, and I extend special congratulations to all the artists who submitted their artwork.

“I’m very excited to be officially opening the Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition at the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery, and I encourage you to come along and support our local artists by attending the opening next Saturday.”
