New Tourism Strategy projects encourage our community to get involved

26 September 2017

Council are calling for residents who live in and love the Western Downs, just like Jack McClelland of the Dalby Men’s Shed, to have their say on the future of tourism in our region.

Western Downs Regional Council is inviting the community to share the rich stories of our local characters, as well as have their say on the type of events they would like to see hosted in our region.

  • As a part of the new Tourism Strategy, Council’s role is to optimise our tourism opportunities, unique experiences and major events;
  • The Regional Events Survey, found on Council’s website, provides residents the opportunity to have their say on what events they would like to see across the region; and
  • Council’s Tourism Team is looking for characters who live in and love the Western Downs to share and promote what the region has to offer.

Spokesperson for Economic Development Councillor Donna Ashurst is encouraging residents to voice their opinions on the potential future events in our communities.

“The Western Downs is known for our diverse and vibrant events. We want to continue to provide events right across our region, both for our residents to enjoy and to attract visitors from near and far,” she said.

“We’ve always had such fantastic support from our community when it comes to our regional events, so we want to know what our community wants to see from the Western Downs. Whether it be festivals or concerts, foodie experiences or something for the whole family, we want to hear from you.”

Cr Ashurst also believes that our local faces are the best representatives of our region, and their stories deserve to be shared.

“Undoubtedly, one of our best and most cherished assets is our people. We’d love to capture and share the stories of our unique characters here on the Western Downs,” she said.

“We all know someone who has led an amazing life, or has an amazing story to tell. Now is the perfect time to tell us about a local personality who may not necessarily nominate themselves.”

The Regional Events Survey is open to all residents of the Western Downs and can be found online at Council’s website. To nominate a local personality, email info@wdrc.qld.gov.au.
