Western Downs Regional Council has unveiled their latest extension to the Dalby Regional Saleyards @ Western Downs, a new purpose built bull ring which will attract greater vendor opportunities to the region, with Western Downs Santa Group hosting their inaugural bull sale at the facility in September.

  • The new $50,000 bull ring was fully funded by the Queensland Government under the Works for Queensland program, and will support the annual Santa Gertrudis bull sale;
  • The inaugural Western Downs Santa Group bull sale will take place at the Dalby Regional Saleyards on Yumborra Road on Saturday 16 September from 10am, with 85 bulls and five females up for auction;
  • A charity bull sale will be held on Wednesday 6 September to help raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, with half of the sale proceeds to be donated to this vital community organisation.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Council Facilities, Councillor Ray Brown said the new purpose built bull ring would introduce a new era of sales and markets to the Western Downs.

“We’re serious about opening up more opportunities for producers to use our state-of-the-art Saleyards, and by building a permanent bull sale ring we’re continuing to add to the strength of our agriculture industry here on the Western Downs,” he said.

“With the bull ring now completed, we’re pleased to be able to partner with Western Downs Santa Group to bring their inaugural bull sale to the Dalby Regional Saleyards.

“This sale will not only showcase the Santa Gertrudis breed, but will also put our fantastic facility on show to a whole new crop of buyers and sellers as we make the first leap into the stud sale market.”

Spokesperson for Western Downs Santa Group, Frank Ashman thanked Council and the Queensland Government for their support in delivering a dedicated bull ring for the region.

“This new bull ring is good for the Dalby district and the beef industry in general. Both Council and the State Government have been so cooperative in working with us to make this happen,” he said.

“The facility that Dalby Regional Saleyards has on offer is superlative, all the boxes are ticked, and it will be a nice buying experience as we’re not only providing buyers with a good product but good facilities.

“As our first bull sale as a group and also for this particular bull ring I believe we will have a good crowd. For those who are visiting and hopefully staying overnight on the Friday, it will be a win-win for the Dalby community and the bull sale.”

The Dalby Regional Saleyards @ Western Downs bull ring project is an initiative of Western Downs Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
