More Opportunities for Seniors to Get Tech Savvy at Western Downs Libraries

17 October 2016

Tech Savvy Seniors is back! The free, fun and interactive technology training sessions run by Western Downs Libraries, through the State-wide Tech Savvy Seniors Queensland initiative, have returned to the region giving our senior residents a chance to learn new skills and get connected online.

  • Seniors all over the region can join one of many small, friendly training group sessions supported by local library staff at our Chinchilla, Dalby, Jandowae, Meandarra and Tara branches;
  • The free training sessions are designed to be fun, hands-on and to assist seniors with ‘everyday’ online tasks in a supportive environment;
  • Our older residents interested in learning and gaining confidence in using a computer, accessing the internet and cyber safety are encouraged to book their spot at one of our Tech Savvy Seniors sessions running until Thursday 10 November by calling 1300 COUNCIL.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the first round of Tech Savvy Seniors sessions held earlier this year were a huge success amongst our senior citizens.

“We received great positive feedback from previous participants in the program and we found that many of our older residents are keen to learn more about technology and how they can keep connected with their families,” she said.

“There are many benefits from learning how to do everyday online tasks such as checking emails, using a smartphone or tablet, doing online banking and connecting on social media.

“Digital literacy skills are now becoming an essential life skill for anyone who wants to actively engage with businesses, information, family and friends not only locally but globally.

“So, if you missed out on the earlier sessions or know someone who might benefit from one of these sessions, make sure you and your friends book in for one of our tutorials.

“You’ll be amazed how quickly you can learn to access all the important information you need and things that you’re interested in.”

For more information and to book your spot, contact your local Library on 1300 COUNCIL, email library@wdrc.qld.gov.au, or visit www.westerndownslibraries.com.

Tech Savvy Seniors Queensland is a partnership between the Queensland Government, Western Downs Libraries, and Telstra.
