Local Builders Hinds & Co are set to deliver a fully revamped Customer Service Centre in Chinchilla following the successful awarding of the $419,000 tender for works.

Western Downs Regional Council is continuing to invest in building and supporting our local businesses and industry, recently awarding the $419,000 Chinchilla Customer Service Centre storm repair and refurbishment tender to local Miles builders Hinds & Co.

  • Works on the refurbishment are expected to start in early September, with Hinds & Co to deliver a fully revamped facility to staff and the community before Christmas;
  • The Centre, which was damaged during the severe hail storm in October 2015 will be completely redeveloped into a more functional, cost-effective facility for Council staff and the Chinchilla community;
  • The awarding of the Tender to Hinds & Co is a boost of confidence in our local economy with Council’s Procurement Policy focused on supporting a competitive local business and industry network in the Western Downs.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Council Facilities Councillor Ray Brown said the awarding of the Chinchilla Customer Service Centre refurbishment tender to local Miles builders Hinds & Co highlights Council’s commitment to supporting local business and industry in our region.

“Once again Western Downs businesses have demonstrated that they are more than capable of having a competitive edge in this open-market, offering skills and human resources to be able to service big projects,” he said.

“Best of all, these types of opportunities for local businesses will support local jobs at the time we need it the most.

“Hinds & Co has a great reputation as professional and quality builders, and we’re glad to welcome them on board to undertake the storm damage repairs and refurbishment of the Chinchilla Customer Service Centre.

“The community will get a new centre that provides a greater level of customer service for a minimal capital spend of $124,000 with the majority of costs covered by Council’s insurer.

“It won’t be an easy job with over 20 internal walls to be removed as we move to a more open-plan layout, but the repairs have certainly provided us the great opportunity to improve and enhance the operational capabilities of the original 1960s facility.

“With construction commencing in the coming weeks, our staff are extremely excited to get into the refurbished Centre to continue providing outstanding customer service to the community.”
