The John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery at Dogwood Crossing, Miles has been transformed into an uplifting display of paintings depicting the beauty and uniqueness of the people and animals of rural life in Australia with Kathy Ellem’s exhibition It’s an Interesting Life.

  • Kathy Ellem strives to depict real life rural images in her works, affirming the interests and unique landscapes, people and animals in rural areas in Australia;
  • After spending 20 years on a 20,000 acre cattle property in South West Queensland, visitors to the exhibition will be greeted by many familiar scenes and images;
  • Also showing on the Curved Wall is Express This an exhibition of work by Miles High School Art Students that explores a variety of different concepts and mediums in the aim of students finding their personal style, expression and visual voice.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Dogwood Crossing, Miles is pleased to be able to host such a well-respected Australian artist.

“Before moving back to Victoria, Kathy spent many years painting and teaching art workshops in Maranoa and we’re excited that she’s brought her It’s an Interesting Life exhibition to Miles,” she said.

“Kathy is a strong advocate for the creative arts in regional and rural Australia and she shares her love for local landscapes, flowers, and the interesting and exceptional subjects of rural life in the many artworks in her current exhibition.

“Visitors to the John Mullins Memorial Art Gallery can prepare to be uplifted by the familiar imagery in Kathy’s work.”
