Replacement works on the Greenswamp Road Bridge over Charleys Creek near Chinchilla have reached a major milestone with local contractors PentaCon successfully installing the 21-metre-long concrete deck units earlier this week.

  • The $1.3 million Greenswamp Road Bridge replacement will deliver a modern, safer, two-lane, steel reinforced concrete bridge to our local community;
  • PentaCon have also commenced installation of the 21-metre-long concrete deck units on the $1.96 million Bundi Road Bridge replacement over Horse Creek;
  • A total of 30 precast deck units will be installed across the two projects weighing in at 600 tonnes;
  • With a design lifespan of 100 years the new bridges will enhance accessibility for locals including significant flood immunity upgrades.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Works and Technical Services Councillor Greg Olm said after months of planning it’s great to see construction underway on the Greenswamp and Bundi Road bridges.

“These local crossings are well-used by our community, so it was fantastic to be onsite at Greenswamp Road this week to see the deck units go in,” he said.

“With many timber bridges across our region deteriorating, Council is excited to be able to deliver bridges that are wider, stronger, safer and last a lifetime.

“Once Greenswamp and Bundi Road bridges are completed, locals will have a more reliable crossing and there will also be a safety benefit, with the new bridges supporting an increased capacity for vehicle loads such as trucks and heavy vehicles.”

Cr Olm said all bridge works are on track to be completed by late September, weather permitting.
