6 December 2016

With our communities buzzing with festivities for the holiday season now is the perfect time for our dedicated community groups to consider submitting their upcoming events in 2017 for funding under Round 2 of Council’s Local Events Program, now open for applications.

  • Community groups who have an event taking place from late March 2017 could be eligible to receive funding from Council’s Local Events Program;
  • The funding program helps to support not-for-profit organisations across the Western Downs deliver events and activities that socially and culturally enhance our communities;
  • Community groups will need to submit their applications via Council’s new online Grants Platform;
  • Council are calling on not-for-profit organisations and groups across the region to submit an application for funding before the round closes on Tuesday 7 February 2017.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Council’s Local Events Program has helped support a variety of local organisations and events.

“I’ve had the wonderful privilege of attending many diverse local events across the Western Downs, and Council wants to see our community groups continue to grow and deliver fantastic events that encourage participation and enjoyment in our communities,” she said.

“From sporting events to local shows and art exhibitions to race days, the Local Events Program provides a much-needed financial helping hand so that our local events can be extended to their full potential.

“We want to see our community groups getting the best out of their events, so if you have an event commencing in late March next year I strongly encourage you to jump on Council’s website and submit an application through our new online Grants platform.

“Our support of local events doesn’t just stop at the funding stage, recently we’ve launched a new service to help support our community groups promote their events through a dedicated community events calendar ‘Western Downs Invites You’.

“Using Council’s established communication channels we can help our community groups promote and market their events across the region. So, if you need support in promoting your events please contact Council.”
