Not-for-profit community organisations and groups in Chinchilla, Dalby and surrounding districts, with diverse and dynamic projects, programs and events aimed at enhancing our local communities and environment can now apply for the ‘The Recycling Market Enviro Grants Program’, with applications closing Friday 30 June 2017.

  • The Enviro Grants Program is a joint initiative of Western Downs Regional Council and our current waste contractors of the Dalby and Chinchilla Waste and Recycling Centres;
  • Aims to support the delivery of projects and initiatives that are environmentally sustainable, conservation based, support community well-being, and contribute to educating others about waste and recycling best practices;
  • The Program reinvests 25 per cent of the net proceeds raised through the sales at The Recycling Markets at the Chinchilla and Dalby Waste and Recycling Centres into supporting our dedicated community groups.

Council Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Councillor Andrew Smith said Council is pleased to be able to partner with our waste contractors to recognise the vital contributions of our local community groups.

“This year marks the third time we’ve opened up the Enviro Grants Program for our local community groups in Chinchilla and Dalby thanks to the generous support of our residents recycling, reusing, and upcycling secondhand goods at our Recycling Market shops,” he said.

“We have a large number of dedicated not-for-profit organisations in our region who make vital contributions to their communities and local environments, and we want to ensure that they can continue to do so.

“Our Enviro Grants Program is just a small way for Council, and our contractors IOLAR Operational Services and JJ Richards and Sons to recognise the hard work of many community groups, as well as help them bring their environmentally sustainable ideas and projects to life.

“We’ve seen great success from previous rounds, with our past recipients delivering a number of practical and innovative projects, such as the installation of water tanks to capture and reuse water, implementation of waste education programs in schools, and the upgrade of facilities to help benefit our environment.

“I strongly encourage local community groups to put pen to paper now and submit a funding proposal to The Recycling Market Enviro Grants Program before applications close on Friday 30 June.”
