The Knowles Pavilion was built in the 1930’s and named after George Charles Knowles who was a successful businessman and a founder of the Downs Timber Company Ltd in 1912.

Throughout the years, the Knowles Pavilion has held many significant functions from debutante balls and formals to expos as well as hosting weddings and reunions.

For many decades during the annual show the pavilion housed the trade and produce displays.

Local architects Martin Building Design and builders New State Buildings Pty Ltd have worked on the project and directly employed 70 locals during construction.

Site superintendent Arthur Martin is pleased that the construction team was made up of local tradespeople.

“This is definitely something that our communities can be proud of as it has such a high percentage of local labour and that’s what the town is about and what it needs.” Mr Martin said

The refurbishments have been made possible thanks to Queensland Government funding totalling more than $1 million through grants from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program and Building our Regions program.

Jennifer Howard MP Assistant Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Assistant Minister of State officially opened the new Dalby Events Centre on Friday morning.

“The refurbishment of the Dalby Events Centre ensures that the community of Dalby and the Western Downs can continue to celebrate and undertake business in a much-loved building for years to come,” Assistant Minister Howard said

“Projects that involve and include local tradespeople and businesses boost the local economy and is one of the many reasons the Queensland Government like to partner with Councils”

The refurbishment of the Dalby Events Centre has meant an improved energy and water efficiency along with access equity ensuring that the centre can be utilised well into the future.
