Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the recognition for excellence in road safety highlights Council’s commitment to building stronger and safer assets that will last well into the future.

“This win brings exposure to the efforts of the individuals who are committed to building stronger and safer towns in the Western Downs, but also how our community and Council can work together to deliver the best results for our communities

“By continuing to invest in value for money road infrastructure and improving the liveability of our region, we can ensure that we’re making the Western Downs a more sustainable, better connected region for our residents and visitors. I’m extremely proud of the Dalby CBD Safety Review project team for this outstanding achievement,” he said.

“It’s great to see our hard working staff recognised for their efforts, I congratulate Steven on being named Technical Officer of the Year as it reflects the positive leadership he provides within our organisation and the esteem in which he is held by his industry peers.

“I would also like to congratulate Shalika on her finalist nomination for the Woman in Engineering Award. Being only at the start of her career in engineering she was up against some tough competition, so it’s great to see our region’s next generation of female engineers leading innovation across Queensland.”

Spokesperson for Works and Technical Services Councillor Greg Olm also congratulated the Engineering Team, praising their commitment to providing high-quality services to our communities.

“Our community are always at the forefront of everything that Council does, and we continually strive to deliver high quality services and infrastructure that matters most to them and meets their needs,” he said.

“These awards are a testament to the range of expertise, excellence and forward thinking demonstrated by our staff every day and showcases how our award-winning Engineering Team is leading other Queensland councils when it comes to project innovation and industry best practice.”
