Community groups and organisations from the Jandowae and Tara Districts who want to show their ‘Aussie Spirit’ and pride by hosting the official 2017 Australia Day Awards Ceremony and breakfast events are encouraged to submit their Expressions of Interest to Western Downs Regional Council by COB Wednesday 31 August 2016.

  • Official Australia Day events will be held across the region on Thursday 26 January 2017;
  • Council are seeking dedicated community groups in the Jandowae and Tara Districts to host their local Awards Ceremony and breakfast events;
  • Expressions of Interest are invited to be submitted to Council, addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, by Wednesday 31 August 2016;
  • Successful groups will be contacted by Council in September.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said our Australia Day events are a highlight for our local communities, and the chance to host the Official Ceremony is an opportunity not to be missed.

“We have a lot of hard working and dedicated community groups in our region, this is a great opportunity for those in Jandowae, Tara and the surrounding district to proudly put their hand up to host a unique Australia Day function,” he said.

“Australia Day is a special time of year for our residents to celebrate the events and people that make our region great. So who better than to help host our official Australia Day Awards Ceremony and breakfast events than those groups who are passionate about their communities and already doing wonderful things to enrich their towns.

“Successful community groups will have the full support of their local Council Community Development Officer to help them deliver an exceptional celebration of our Australia Day Award winners and strong ‘Aussie Spirit’ this coming Australia Day.”
