Council's award-winning Customer Contact Team have been named the best of the best two years running, taking home the Innovation in Service Delivery Award at the National Local Government Customer Service Network Awards.

Council’s award-winning Customer Contact Team have been named the best of the best two years running, taking home the Innovation in Service Delivery Award at the National Local Government Customer Service Network Awards.

Council’s Customer Contact Team has proven they’re leading the way in innovation, recognised as the best of the best for the second year running at the National Local Government Customer Service Network Awards taking home the top gong for Innovation in Service Delivery over the weekend.

  • From a total of 6 local government finalists from across Australia, Council was named the winner of the Innovation in Service Delivery Award ahead of teams in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hawkesbury, Gosnells and Canada Bay;
  • Council was also 1 of 8 finalists listed for the Customer Service Team of the Year Award;
  • Our Infrastructure Service Division has also recently been recognised for their excellence in engineering with our Works Principal Aaron Meehan taking out the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) Queensland Young Engineer Award;
  • In this financial year alone, teams and individuals across Council have been recognised in a total of 11 state and national awards, highlighting how we’re continuing to pave the way in excellence in the local government sector.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Finance and Corporate Services Councillor Ian Rasmussen said departments, teams and individuals right across Council are making waves both in Queensland and across Australia.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our Customer Contact Team for their recent win, and I congratulate them for redefining what excellence looks like by setting a high standard for other Local Governments to follow,” he said.

“Right across Council our hardworking staff are leading the charge when it comes to doing things smarter to deliver the best results for our communities in the Western Downs.

“From our teams behind the Jacko Cavanagh Bridge Project, the WDRC Works Reorganisation, and the new Planning Scheme through to the extraordinary achievements of General Manager Jodie Taylor and Business Systems Analyst Simone Hubner, we’re kicking goals in every department.

“This recognition of the efforts of staff at both a State and National level is a tremendous salute to their commitment to continually set best practice benchmarks and ensure that our communities remain a great place to live, work and play.”

  • Works Principal Aaron Meehan — Award winner, IPWEA Queensland Young Engineer of the Year;
  • Customer Contact Team — Finalist, Customer Service Team of the Year, National Local Government Customer Service Network Awards;
  • Jacko Cavanagh Bridge Project Team — Finalist, Public Works Project under $2 million, IPWEA Queensland Excellence Awards;
  • WDRC Works Reorganisation Team — Finalist, Innovation in Public Works, IPWEA Queensland Excellence Awards;
  • Planning and Development Assessment Team — Finalist, Planning Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence (winners will be announced Friday 10 November);
  • Strategic Planning Team for the Western Downs Planning Scheme — Finalist, Planning Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence (winners will be announced Friday 10 November);
  • General Manager (Liveability and Community) Jodie Taylor — Finalist, Downs Women in Business Awards (winners will be announced Thursday 9 November);
  • Business Systems Analyst Simone Hubner — Finalist, Downs Women in Business Awards (winners will be announced Thursday 9 November).
