Council approves facelift for Dalby Shoppingworld

27 October 2017

Council approved Dalby Shoppingworld's plans to upgrade vehicle and pedestrian access to the complex.

Council approved Dalby Shoppingworld’s plans to upgrade vehicle and pedestrian access to the complex.

Parking at Dalby Shoppingworld is set to get a whole lot easier with Western Downs Regional Council approving a development application to bring the centre truly into the modern era of convenience.

  • The proposed changes will see the existing access to basement parking relocated thanks to ease of access to undercover parking from a planned new entrance off Marble Street (west of the current ramp);
  • Dalby Shoppingworld will also undertake improvements to pedestrian access from the basement parking, converting the existing ramp near the Telstra shop into a travellator and installing a new elevator nearby;
  • Council has also approved plans to upgrade the centre’s Cunningham Street frontage with a new shade canopy and signage, as well as proposed changes to build a new covered walkway from the external parking.

Council Spokesperson for Economic Development Councillor Donna Ashurst said the proposed upgrades to the centre will be Dalby Shoppingworld’s first major renovation since Council approved the development in 2005.

“With the new Bunnings now open and ALDI on the way giving more people a reason to stop and shop in our region, it’s fantastic to see Dalby Shoppingworld making the move to improve parking and convenience for residents and visitors,” she said.

“Dalby is becoming a burgeoning retail destination, and the Shoppingworld’s plans to significantly improve access, amenity and overall customer experience will give a boost to the social and community vibe of the CBD.

“The new travellator and elevator will also bring the complex into the modern era and help to keep Dalby Shoppingworld a dynamic retail destination while delivering a better shopping experience for our growing population.”

McConaghy Group managing director Robert McConaghy said the update was timely for the Dalby Shoppingworld development, which was completed almost 11 years ago.

“These improvements when implemented will provide more direct and simpler access to the basement carpark, and combined with a travellator will provide a more modern and convenient shopping experience,” he said.

“We regularly review how we can make the centre experience better and easier for our customers.”
