This Anzac Day, join us in paying tribute to the generations of Australian and New Zealand men and women who have, and continue to, bravely defend our values and freedoms, at commemorative services and events being held across the Western Downs on Tuesday 25 April.

  • Regional Anzac Day services and events are a time for our community to honour and show their appreciation for the service and sacrifice of their fellow Australians;
  • This year marks the continuation of the Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) commemorating 100 years since our involvement in the First World War, the selfless bravery of our original ANZACs, and the ensuing Century of Service of Australia’s armed forces;
  • Residents and community groups are invited to lay their own wreath during commemoration services.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said services across the region are an opportunity for our community to come together to reflect, remember and pay tribute.

“Anzac Day in the Western Downs holds a lot of significance for many in our region, as we commemorate and contemplate the legacy of those who have bravely served our country, and those who never returned home,” he said.

“With a rich history of service in our region, it’s a time for us to join together to continue to honour the Anzac spirit and show our appreciation to the generations of Australian and New Zealand men and women who for over 100 years have defended our values and freedoms.

“We have a multitude of ceremonies happening across the region on Tuesday 25 April for residents and visitors to come along and pay their respects, and to give you an opportunity to lay a wreath a commemorative service.”

Councillors will be attending ceremonies across the region to pay their respects and lay wreaths.
