Nominate your flavour concept for the ‘Flavour It Your Way’ competition to Gleeson’s Quality Meats by Friday 21 January.

After the sizzling success of last year’s ‘Flavour It Your Way’ Australia Day sausage sizzle Western Downs Regional Council is calling on snag enthusiasts in the Chinchilla District to put a distinct and tasteful twist on the traditional Australian snag by submitting their ideas for this year’s competition by Friday 20 January, with the winner to be chosen by the public on Australia Day.

If you want to take part in the competition you will need to:

  • Visit the team at Gleeson’s Quality Meats at 91 Heeney Street, to discuss and nominate your idea by close of business Friday 20 January;
  • Judges will select finalists based on originality, creativity, and feasibility of the entry concept with successful finalists being notified prior to Australia Day;
  • Best of all there’s no need to put your cooking skills to the test, Gleeson’s Quality Meats will do all the hard work for you making your sausage concept on site ready for the competition;
  • The community will have their chance to vote on their favourite concept at the Australia Day Family Fun Afternoon at the Chinchilla Museum from 2pm with Gleeson’s Quality Meats bringing the concepts to life at the free ‘Flavour It Your Way’ sausage sizzle.

Mayor Paul McVeigh is encouraging residents to get together with their family and friends to come up with an interesting and unique flavour concept to makeover our humble Australian sausage.

“There’s nothing better than celebrating Australia Day with a sausage on bread, so we’re giving the Chinchilla community the chance to put their own twist on this great Aussie tradition,” he said.

“We have wonderful cultural diversity in our region and we’re home to some of the finest local produce in the Darling Downs. What a fantastic way to celebrate our Australian ‘way of life’ by bringing together the diversity, cultures, flavours and produce that make our region so great.

“We look forward to seeing families celebrating Australia Day within their community and enjoying the locally created flavours on offer, with the best snag as voted by the community, being awarded on the day, so don’t forget to vote for your favourite.”
