Chinchilla Aerodrome gets funding boost from QGC

29 August 2016

Final works on the $4.5 million Chinchilla Aerodrome Rehabilitation Project, fully funded by natural gas company QGC Pty Limited, are underway with Western Downs Regional Council announcing at its recent Ordinary Meeting that local Chinchilla firm Pentacon Pty Ltd have been awarded the tender to start the $256, 400 worth of works to construct sealed stopways at the facility.

  • The Chinchilla Aerodrome sealed stopway project will be fully funded by QGC, with Pentacon set to commence works in the coming weeks;
  • The project will significantly improve the reliability and safety of the facility for aircraft and regular users of the Aerodrome;
  • During the construction period, the Chinchilla Aerodrome will be closed for up to three weeks as the sealed stopway project is being carried out.

Council Spokesperson for Council Facilities Councillor Ray Brown said that the additional upgrades to the Aerodrome demonstrate QGC’s ongoing commitment to contribute back to the communities they operate in.

“The rehabilitation of the Chinchilla Aerodrome has already delivered many benefits to our communities with our local construction firms coming out on top,” he said.

“The significant upgrades completed last year were carried out by local guys Ostwald Bros, and we’re proud to announce that Chinchilla based firm Pentacon will be undertaking the works to seal the stopway.

“Commencing in September, Pentacon will stabilise and seal the current grassed area being used as the stopway making it safer for aircrafts and minimising Council’s short-term maintenance costs, bringing the Aerodrome fully up to spec with civil aviation requirements.

“It’s fantastic to see that Council, our local businesses, and the resource companies in our region are able to work together to ensure essential infrastructure, like our aerodromes, are maintained to a high level contributing to the economic growth of the Western Downs.”
