For some, the 26 January will be more than just a celebration of our great nation with 32 of our residents making the pledge to become Australian citizens at a special ceremony in Chinchilla.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said there is no better way to showcase our classic Australian spirit and pride than by joining together to welcome our new citizens to the region this Australia Day.

“Becoming an Australian citizen on Australia Day is a pretty special moment, and I can tell you as Mayor of the Western Downs nothing gives me more pride than being a part of welcoming our newest citizens to our region,” he said.

“Our national holiday is all about celebrating our cultural diversity, people and traditions, and I can’t think of anything more true blue than our community sharing this day and important ceremony with Western Downs’ new Aussies.

“This is a chance for us to showcase to our newest citizens why we’re proud to call this country our home and show our support.”

The Australia Day Citizenship ceremony will take place at 9am at the Chinchilla Museum, 33 Villiers Street followed by family fun activities.
