Arts aplenty across the Western Downs

1 September 2017

‘On Show’, the latest exhibition at Gallery 107 @ Dalby, promises beautiful artwork from local talent across our region.

Art lovers rejoice! September is shaping up to be the month of arts and culture, with three exhibitions running across the Western Downs showcasing local, regional and national talent.

  • On Show, the 4th annual Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition, hosted at Gallery 107 @ Dalby this year, will be showcasing work from 31 local artists until Sunday 8 October;
  • The Chinchilla Community Art Collection, housed in Chinchilla’s Lapunyah Art Gallery, from Saturday 9 September to Thursday 5 October, features pieces by local and well-known Australian artists; and
  • Reminiscence: celebrating 100 years of Australian visionary Judith Wright, brings the spirit of the famed writer, poet and activist to Dogwood Crossing, Miles, until Tuesday 19 September;

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said she is looking forward to the upcoming exhibitions across our region.

“I’m excited to see how our local artists have interpreted this year’s Regional Artists’ Exhibition theme On Show in their entries and I can’t wait to see who takes out the top prize. I would encourage our community to come and see the talent ‘on show’ for themselves, come opening night 5.30pm Saturday 2 September.” she said.

“Our local and regional artists Grace Lithgow, Di McIntyre, and Frances Brown have also found their place amongst the renowned national talent of Hugh and Anthony Sawrey, Tom McAulay and John Morrison in the Chinchilla Community Art Collection. To have our artists together with well-known Australian names is a testament to the talent and creativity of our region.

“Coming to a close soon, Reminiscence, presented by artists Fiona Rafferty and Frances Smith, is a celebration of Judith Wright through works on paper; such as etchings and paintings, and ceramics. It’s a visual delight not to be missed.

“It’s great to see our regional galleries, and our communities, embracing the work of our incredible local artists. It’s safe to say that there is a huge amount of creative talent across the Western Downs!”
